CheckSix Gaming is No More
Via ESFI World:
“The closure comes on the heels of a set of significant setbacks related to the team’s StarCraft 2 division, which was originally established in August 2010.”
“First, on July 14th, South Korean Zerg Kim “Sleep” Seong Han, arguably the team’s ace player, mutually came to an agreement with team management to part ways.”
“An even larger blow came only ten days later, when on July 24th, Conan “Suppy” Liu was recruited by Evil Geniuses. Liu was one of CheckSix Gaming’s homegrown players, providing the University student with a foundation to work off of as he pursued his StarCraft career.”
“Days later, CheckSix’s longtime player manager, Bernie “Fujikura” Catalan, left the team for budding North American, multi-gaming team It’s Gosu, where he replaced the outgoing Scott “RuM” Ball, who now works as Director of Sales and Marketing at Quantic Gaming. “[Catalan] left in direct response to the loss of Suppy,” Carter told ESFI. “He was understandably upset that Suppy was not signed to a contract.”

GSL Finals at IPL5
Two GSL events will be hosted along with IPL5 in Las Vegas.
- GSL World Championship: A 5v5 show match between five of the best foreigners and five of the best Koreans.
- GSL 2012 Code S Season 4: The Ro8 through the grand finals will be played in Las Vegas at IPL5.
IGN Pro League announced during their Team Arena finals this last weekend that two GSL events will be hosted live at the IPL5 finals in Las Vegas, currently projected to happen in October or November.
There will be a “GSL World Championship”: A 5v5 show match between five of the best foreigners and five of the best Koreans.
and…
GSL 2012 Code S Season 4: The Ro8 through the Grand Finals will be played.
Significantly, this will be effectively two weeks of a normal GSL season played out in one weekend. The players will surely have to modify their training style to adapt to this format.
Apparently the crowd reception to the GSL Finals at the last Blizzcon sent the right message.
IPL also suffered a slew of issues this past weekend with the TAC 3 Finals.
ESFI World has a great interview with David Ting on the subject of the GSL finals at IPL5 and addressing the issues with TAC 3.
Tickets for WCS Available Soon!
“In the near future we’ll open up tickets sales for the event. Keep in mind, however, since we will be offering tickets through our Chinese website, some western payments may not be supported. If you’re determined to make the trip to Shanghai for the ultimate StarCraft II event, though, we want to help you out. We’ve given several of our eSports partners, as well as StarCraft II and World of Warcraft fansites a collection of tickets.
In the coming days you’ll find information on the following websites about how to claim tickets of your own. We’ll be sure to update this post as well when individual website ticket promotions are live.”
Iron Squid 2
“After the first successful Iron Squid Edition, whose Grand Finals fired up almost 3000 people in one of the most popular place in Paris, the Grand Rex, the Iron Squid staff just announced on Twitter that a new season is incoming!”
New StarCraft II Novel Flashpoint Coming in November
Via StarCraft2.com:
“Written by New York Times bestselling author Christie Golden, StarCraft II: Flashpoint follows Jim Raynor, Sarah Kerrigan, and the crew of the Hyperion as they battle their way across Dominion space to find their one hope of refuge from the tireless forces of Emperor Arcturus Mengsk. This exciting new chapter in the StarCraft saga explores the aftermath of StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty® and the events leading into the upcoming Heart of the Swarm™expansion, and gives readers new insight into the early years of Raynor and Kerrigan’s tumultuous relationship.”
Garrett Note: Bad ass cover art. But where the hell is Kerrigan’s Zerg-dreadlocks?
TSL4 Ro16
ST_Hack vs mouzCC_HasuObs
- Game 1 should not have lasted 12+ minutes. Hack never had a chance.
- Game 2 Hack got it together. Beautiful split attack on HasuObs main.
Darkforce vs Sting
- Sting won with a solid and quick 3-0 over Darkforce.
- Sting’s mass-Hellion in Game 3 was rough. Every unit of Darkforce’s died almost immediately after spawning.
